This Christmas season well over a million people will be finding God in the Hallelujah Chorus YouTube clip, shot by a group of 5th graders from School in the small Yupik Eskimo village of Quinhagak, Alaska; population 600.
It seems these kids were given an assignment by their teacher to produce their own video. So they spent about 10 hours one weekend, practicing and recording a clip they hoped would be appreciated by at least 200 of their closest friends and family. You can imagine their surprise when it took YouTube by storm.
However, not everyone who’s viewed the video has found the Christmas spirit. Comments on the popular video have been turned off, most likely in an effort to fend off the scrooges who insist that the teacher, as well as the other townspeople (who happen to be the children’s parents and family members) be fired for participating in this student-led project.
But at least one viewer said in response to one such commenter, “I think you missed the point of the video.”

Kids, let me tell you that you did a great job and the world certainly agrees. Second, I’m proud of you for exercising your freedom to both express and practice your faith. (Besides, if we mere humans don’t praise God, then even the rocks will cry out.)
