By Karen O’Connor:
It was easy to find God in the Monarch Butterfly as I strolled the Monarch Grove at the Natural Bridges State Beach in Santa Cruz, California.
This temporary winter home for up to 100,000 Monarchs each year is filled with the presence of their Creator.
These awesome creatures are a beautiful example of how God transforms each one from a tiny seed on the underside of a leaf to a caterpillar and then into a magnificent butterfly.
This amazing series of changes points to the transformation human beings undergo when we choose to follow God through the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2).
The Monarch Grove has been declared a Natural Preserve and is the only one in the state of California to protect the Monarch from human encroachment or harm. If God protects the tiny butterfly, imagine how much more he will protect you and me when we cling to him?
. . . anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun (2 Corinthians 5:17).
To find God in the Monarch Butterfly is a reminder to find God in all his creatures, including ourselves, and to stay close to God throughout our lives so we will be safe and cared for forever.
