You can find God on the anniversary of September 11th, in the book Dear America : A Letter of Comfort & Hope to a Grieving Nation
Eleven years ago on September 11th we watched the unthinkable. The Twin Towers crumbled in a heap and we wondered, Who? And Why? In the days and weeks following September 11, 2001, Dianne E. Butts wrote a small book about faith that is still relevant today providing a way to find God on the anniversary of September 11th in the book Dear America: A Letter of Comfort & Hope to a Grieving Nation.
Butts opened her book with her own story of loss and grief, though she was in Colorado on September 11, 2001, and personally lost no loved ones in the events of that day. “I experienced the loss of my father when I was fifteen and my brother just after my eighteenth birthday, plus extended family members in between, and I just wanted to share comfort with those newly grieving, plus practical lessons I’ve learned that can help anyone who has lost a loved one,” she said.
In her opening chapter Butts shares how she came to understand and embrace the Christian faith. Following chapters include “Ten Things I’ve Learned While Sifting through Grief,” understanding God which includes the overarching story of the Bible in five scenes, seven questions and answers about Christians and Muslims and more, and a final practical chapter with ten tips for those who want to begin reading and understanding the Bible for themselves. You can read a few excerpts from this book at our suicide prevention site in a few of Dianne’s 10 Lessons About Grief.
Dear America (Ampelos Press, 2002), published six months to the day after September 11, 2001, is an easy read at 52 pages in the print version, which is available exclusively from Dianne E. Butts and from Amazon.com. Dear America was re-released on Kindle for its tenth anniversary in March 2012.
This book is timeless in its practical, tender help for those grieving and in helping people find God in their hard times. So as we remember that tragic day in our history, we can also find God on the anniversary of September 11th in the book Dear America: A Letter of Comfort & Hope to a Grieving Nation.
