Find God in the new book Grandparenting Through Obstacles
You’ve finally hit that grand time of life. You’re a grandparent! But it’s not as easy as you had envisioned. You’re facing many obstacles: your grandkids live a long distance away. Or a non-traditional blended family creates visitation challenges. Or you long to help your grandchildren find God, but their parents are not walking with God which creates obstacles you long to overcome. Where can you find help? This new book has the answers you need to find God in Grandparenting Through Obstacles.
Co-authored by Renee Gray-Wilburn and Dianne E. Butts, the book contains twenty true stories from real grandparents. Stories are about those who faced obstacles in reaching their grandchildren for Jesus Christ, found ways to work in, through, or around those obstacles, and are seeing fruit from their efforts. Readers will glean dozens of ideas to help them grandparent through their own obstacles.
Stories include ideas for every budget and a host of situations, including learning how to Skype to see grandchildren between long-distance visits, grandparents who took on childcare for absent parents, and finding ways to reach the grandkids when non-Christian parents oppose it. You’ll meet grandparents who conduct “Nana Camp” at their house or take the grandkids to Christ-centered vacation destinations.
Every chapter contains one story. End of chapter material includes “Steps to Take,” “Scriptures to Study,” a suggested prayer to pray, and room to jot your own notes, ideas, and prayers. Every chapter includes a short reading about real “Grandparents in the Bible.” A list of resources is included in the back of the book.
When asked what means the most to them about this book, co-author Dianne E. Butts answered:
“Its goal to reach individuals for Jesus Christ—including not only the grandchildren but possibly their parents.”
Co-author Renee Gray-Wilburn said:
“One day, when I’m a grandparent, I will use the stories that our contributors shared to guide me with my grandchildren. Who knows what kind of society those kids will face? I will do my part to help them get to know the God who never changes and can help them through anything.”
