Finding God on Mammoth Mountain

By Karen O’Connor:

Karen reminds us once again of ways to find God in everyday life, including His creation.

I spent a week hiking in Mammoth Lakes, California with some of my women friends and enjoying the blessing of finding God on Mammoth Mountain. The best of our five days involved riding the gondola to the peak, having lunch at the top, and then hiking down the five miles to the valley floor in three hours.

The views are spectacular. You have to be there to appreciate the depth and breadth of the place. Everywhere I looked and walked I was reminded of the power of God’s creation.

 You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands. (Isaiah 55:12, NIV Bible)

But you don’t have to go to the heights to appreciate what the Lord has done. A walk in a park, an hour in your garden, a day at a lake with your family are enough to display the grandeur of nature and the beauty of all things that spring from the gracious hand of God who loves us with an everlasting love. Finding God on Mammoth Mountain is just one of the many ways he reveals himself to his people.
