Finding God in New Sandals

By Karen O’Connor:

Finding shoes is one thing…allowing God to direct us as we walk in them is another.

Today I bought a pair of sturdy but attractive new sandals for a camping trip I’m taking next week. I needed shoes I could slip in and out of easily around the campsite before and after our daily treks. I found exactly what I was looking for, and on sale too. Finding God in new sandals made my day. Not only does God provide what I need, but he does so within my budget!

It’s little reminders like this that increase my faith each day. Yes, reading the Bible and saying daily prayers is important. So is being attentive to the Lord’s teachings. But when God shows up in small surprising ways–helping me find a pair of shoes,  the right outfit for a wedding, or a perfect birthday gift for a loved one–that really brings a smile to my face. It boosts my faith. I know without a doubt that God is with me in the mundane and the meaningful. He’s with me, period. All I have to do is talk to him as a friend, confide in him when I’m worried, and trust him to do for me what I cannot do for myself.

Finding God in new sandals encourages me to turn to him in everything, and then wait and watch what he does.

Now I just need to ask him where he wants me to go in those sandals, to walk in His light, grow in faith and reach others!

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. (1 John 1:7,  NIV Bible)

  1. Karen, I love the way you express your love of God. It is only in loving and trusting him completely that these small and large blessings happen. I owe all to Him including the part you played in my life. Writing has brought me great joy.

I hope all is well with you, and your loved ones.
