Filoli Sunken Garden
Thousands of visitors tour this famous house in Woodside, California each year and stroll the beautiful landscape. My husband and I were among them not long ago and we were completely taken with the majesty of the home and the grandeur of the gardens. Finding God in the Filoli House and Garden was easy as we walked the acreage and soaked up the beauty!
“Located 30 miles south of San Francisco, Filoli is an historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and one of the finest remaining country estates of the early 20th century. Whether enjoying its beauty or pursuing its educational opportunities, we invite you to explore this cherished community resource.” (www.filoli.org)
The flowers, trees, plants, and shrubs reflected God’s glory and the exquisite presentation of each detail within the house made me think of God’s promise to prepare a room in his heavenly house for me and for all those who follow him through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, “Don’t be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house. I would not tell you this if it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you. After I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back. Then I will take you with me, so that you can be where I am” (John 14:1-3 the Bible).
If a mansion such as the Filoli House is available to people here on earth, what must the heavenly home and gardens be like? I can only imagine, and even when I see them I’m sure I will be amazed. Perhaps this earthly mansion and others like it are a preview of what is to come when we pass to the other side and live in the presence of God for all eternity. Meanwhile, I will enjoy finding God in the Filoli House and Gardens while I am on this side of eternity.
