My neighbor Bob has a hummingbird feeder that attracts these little ‘helicopters’ by the droves.  Finches skitter and balance on the edge of trays full of birdseed.  As I watched them one day, I realized that finding God while feeding the birds of the air, or simply watching them, is something any of us can do.

Jesus taught us:

“Look at the birds of the air,” he said. “They do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:26 )

What a thought-provoking question. To be certain of God’s love for us and his extraordinary provision—even in difficult times––all we have to do is look to our feathered friends. They don’t worry about where their next meal is coming from or whether there will be shelter. They do what they were created to do and God takes care of the rest. Oh to live such a trusting and grace-filled life.

The next time I feel the grip of fear I’m going to walk into my yard and focus on the birds, who have much to teach me about my heavenly father who cares for me and for every one of his creation.
