By Deborah Lovett:
John 14:10 “If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.”
Ponder that verse for a moment, as I explain how I am finding God in His love today.
God does not play favorites. If there is nothing I can do to make God love me anymore than He already does, then why do I try so hard? Why am I carrying unnecessary burdens?
The Bible tells us, our love is imperfect, because we are human. But, IF WE LOVE HIM WE WILL OBEY HIS COMMANDS. So our love for Him is shown by what we do, but that doesn’t grant us more of His love. Our love is a choice, and love takes time. Time on our knees, time at the Well of Living Water.
His love is a free gift, and when we accept it, it also compels us to obey more easily through His Holy Spirit. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Free gifts bring freedom. No strings attached. Freedom releases us from trying so hard.
Thankfully his love for us is not based on what we do. In Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV Bible) we are told:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Have you accepted Jesus Christ’s love today, so you can obey Him more easily? So you can be released of your burdens? So you can show love to the hard to the love? Your love for Him compels you. There is a difference between trying to please God and loving Him.
Now, ponder that for a moment. Let it soak into your soul. The well is deep. May you be assured that He knows your heart today, when you visit the fountain of love! Now that’s what finding God in His love is all about!
