Finding God During the Job Shortage

By Karen O’Connor

Finding God during the job shortage is one way to cope with disheartening statistics, especially for men and teens under the age of twenty-four. Wall Street Journal said this group of job hunters remains unemployed, on average, for thirty-two months before finding meaningful work. I know. One of my grandsons falls into this group. But when I think about such challenges I am reminded to pray for every one of us because we never know what’s around the corner from the world’s point of view.

But we can know what God has in mind. He tells us in Matthew 6:31-32 in the bible.

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.”

We can rest, knowing that we’ll never be abandoned. One way or the other, oftentimes in unexpected ways, God will provide for us.

Just the other day, when I feared I wouldn’t make my bills this month, I received a check for some writing I did several months ago, an order for books, and five new writing assignments. God had my back!

Finding God during the job shortage is just one of many way to connect with the Lord of all as we wait to see what surprise he has in store for us.
