Finding God While Searching on Google

By Karen O’Connor

What a trip it’s been finding God while searching on google.com. Since this search engine is the first place I go for information for my writing projects, it has actually increased my faith in God. When I look for quotations on gratitude or children or marriage or nature, verses from the bible pop up. When I explore the life of a famous person or dig into science for facts and figures, there is God, the creator of the universe showing his majesty in even the smallest detail.

“The world is charged with the grandeur of God,” wrote the 19th-century English poet Gerard Manley Hopkins. In equally inspiring words, the psalmist David wrote, “The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork (Ps. 19:1).

Albert Einstein had this to say: “Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind.”

As I read on the Internet about people serving their communities, I see again how the Lord of heaven and earth makes himself evident in each one of us. Men and women across the world share their money and time and talent with the less fortunate, with neighbors and friends, with family members and strangers and they pop up on google.com.

This month alone I found photos and comments and stories about individuals just like you and me going out into their communities on a Saturday to paint worn school buildings, weed gardens, deliver food to shut-ins, and perform music recitals for patients in nursing homes.

Finding God while searching on google.com is one of the Lord’s generous ways of showing himself even through advanced technology. Our God is everywhere.
