Finding God with Jackie Evancho

by Laurie Winslow Sargent

People are finding God with Jackie Evancho, whose angelic voice touches their hearts.

Visit www.JackieEvancho.com to see more videos and her concert schedule. Upcoming concerts are Oct 16 in Pittsburgh, PA; Nov 7 in New York, NY; and Dec 29th in Las Vegas, NV.

Originally discovered at age ten on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, Jackie (now age eleven) has since been on Jay Leno and The View. During a recent concert tour, she wowed the audience with her rendition of The Lord’s Prayer, accompanied by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

It’s a marvel to hear rich vocals coming from the throat of a child. But what is truly a marvel is that Jackie’s voice—just as your own voice and mine—can be differentiated from the voice of others. We all have the same basic set of physical equipment to produce speech, with minor variations in the way our lungs, vocal cords,  tongue, palate, cheek and lips are shaped.  Yet how is it that Jackie’s voice, or the rich voice of the young Josh Groban (click to hear) can bring a listener to tears? And how is it that so many people, among millions, have voices that are instantly familiar to us?  I can quickly identify the deep, rich, voice of James Earl Jones and other actors. Comedians who do imitations bank on that!

Not only have Jackie, Josh and James had unique voices since birth: they had them even before birth.  (Newborns can also differentiate between the voices of others, as evidenced by their turning immediately to the voice of a parent.) God designed each person’s voice uniquely, including your own. He designed each person with great care and potential, including you.

Finding God with Jackie Evancho means that something as small as the gift of the human voice can help us find God daily.

  1. Dear God, I am a big fan of Jackie Evancho and i am glad that you gave her the most angelistic voice ever. You made her an angel on earth with a big voice that you even made her a winner on “America’s Got Talent”. I am so proud of Jackie and i want to get her autograph. I wrote her a letter about two months ago and i pray that she answers it so that she can send me her autograph because i want to hang it on my refridgerator. In Jesus’ name i pray, Amen.

    Dear Darrell:
Your prayer reminds me of how I like to talk to God sometimes by writing letters to Him. I think he loves it when we pour out our feelings like you did about Jackie, who he created! I know you think her autograph would be wonderful, but do you know that your own autograph is just as valuable? God made you special too–no one else has your voice, or handwriting, or thoughts. You are as unique as Jackie and just as loved by God.
