Finding God is like a Mentos and Diet Coke Experiment

If you’ve ever seen a Mentos and Diet Coke geyser, you’ll know how powerful the combination of these two ingredients can be.  But is is possible to compare this experient to a relationship with God?  Perhaps you’ll see that Finding God is like a Mentos and Diet Coke Experiment when you consider the facts.

First, let’s examine what happens when you add a package of Mentos to a 2- liter bottle of Diet Coke. According Wikapedia, “The numerous small pores on the candy’s surface catalyze the release of carbon dioxide gas from the soda, resulting in the rapid expulsion of copious amounts of foam.”

So, in otherwords, the plastic bottle cannot contain the explosive-action created with this combination.

Consider then that the same thing happens when you add the living spirit of God to a human soul.  The God-action created with this explosive combination will soon cause joy and love to bubble out of the human soul and into the lives of others.

But note, God will not breath his spirit into a human soul unless that human invites his presence into their life.

Here are the instructions on how to do that:

      1. First recognize that you are not perfect and that you need a real relationship or friendship with God.
      2. Next, invite the presence of God into your soul through prayer (talking to God).  Keep in mind that God can hear every whisper, spoken aloud or not.  That prayer can be varied, but must include these elements:
      • Recognize you are a sinner.
      • Recognize that Jesus, the son of God who died on a cross, died for your sins.  Good news: God’s power brought Jesus back to life three days after he was buried in a tomb. Jesus is still alive and is with God now.
      • Ask God to forgive you for your sins though both the the goodness and sacrifice of Jesus.
      • Invite the presence of God into your life.

When these steps are complete, the human will undergo an explosive change. It’s not that the human becomes God, it’s that the human is filled with God’s presence.

This bubbling over can continue though allowing God’s presence to grow and expand through daily Bible study, a good teaching church, and prayer.

So as you can see, Finding God is like a Mentos and Diet Coke Experiment.

Finding God at the Flagpole

Linda Evans Shepherd

This week over 3 million students from around the globe were finding God a the flagpole as they participated in the movement ‘See you at the pole’ or (SYATP).  This year’s theme was ‘Convergence’ as based on Matthew 18:20, For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

According to Wikapedia, “SYATP is an annual gathering of Christian students of all ages at a flagpole in front of their local school for prayer, scripture-reading and hymn-singing, during the early morning before school starts and occurs on every fourth Wednesday in September.”

This movement began in Burleson, Texas 1990 and has  grown by word of mouth and the Internet,  to locations now around the globe.

The Christian Post reported that Syracuse, N.Y., Onondaga Community College student Anthony DeFrank posted on facebook“I’m really looking forward to seeing God move in the students,” DeFrank said ahead of the event. “I’m planning on playing two worship songs and having different students pray for different things – the school, students, teachers, the city, the world, and the nation.”

Doug Clark, a national promoter and coordinator for SYATP reported on the official SYATP official Facebook fan page the results of the many campus events worldwide.  In one post he reported,  ”Here’s a great story from an earlier SYATP that came to us from a radio station:

“It’s an important event for kids to take a stand for their faith. It makes a difference… it did in my life. I was in high school, riding the bus to school, when I saw my friends standing around the flag pole praying one morning. It gave me the opportunity to ask questions, which led me to a youth group, which led me to a youth weekend, where I gave my life to Christ. It all started with See You At The Pole. It makes a difference! So get your kids involved.”

To which Doug commented, “Amen! We’ve heard so many stories like this!”

Finding God’s Love with Mandesa

Photo of Mandisa from Wikipedia, used by permission.

Mandesa is a woman who is living in the love of God, but it hasn’t always come easy.  When her dad abandoned her when she was only two years old, it broke her heart.  Then when she was brutally assaulted at age 16, she turned to food for comfort and protection. So in lieu of her past, how is it now that so many are finding God’s love with Mandesa, especially after she was humiliated on American Idol when Simon Cowell made fun of her weight?  Though the producers goaded her to go back and give Simon what for, she returned to the judges panel and shocked Simon and the world when she told Simon,

“You hurt me. It was painful. It really was. But I want you to know that I have forgiven you. You don’t need someone to apologize in order to forgive somebody. I figured that if Jesus could die so that all of my sins could be forgiven, I could certainly extend that same grace to you.”

Today, when study after study contend that harboring grudges and bitterness can lead to cancer and even heart disease, Mandesa was able to break free of her bonds.  In front of the entire world, was able to tap into the power of God’s love and grace to forgive Cowell, a man who had wounded her deeply.  It was that same power of God’s love and grace that helped her drop so many of those unwanted pounds.

Mandesa is quoted as saying about those who hurt her, including the man who assaulted her, in Blog Critics,

I’m a stronger person today because of what happened. I have mercy on the guy who did this. I want people to know that you can move past this. At a point, you must forgive, it’s not for the other person, it’s for yourself. It freed me, and released the bitterness and rage from my heart.
